Animal Bites Increasing in Texas County

June 4th, 2008 · No Comments

In Anderson County, Texas, animal bites are on the rise.  In 2007, there were a total of 28 bites all year long.  Thus far in 2008, there have already been 24 bites.  The Sheriff, Greg Taylor, expects the yearly total to double.  Half of the victims were bitten by animals other than their own and some of the attacks were severe maulings.  A 6 year old boy was recently attacked by a Bull Mastiff, resulting in multiple bite wounds to his thighs, hips, back, and chest.  Thankfully, his injuries were not life threatening.

Every year in Texas, about 400,000 dog bites occur.  It is estimated about 40% of the victims are under the age of 11. Additionally, about 20% of the people who die from dog bites are over the age of 70.

If you have been attacked by a dog, it is important to contact an attorney to protect your legal rights.  Damages such as medical costs and pain and suffering are recoverable if the dog’s owner was negligent in their control of the animal.  The experienced Rhinelander personal injury lawyers at Habush Habush & Rottier can help you with your situation at 800.369.5990.
